The Nottingham Forest transfer saga takes an intriguing turn with the revelation of an £8m clause.
A Left-Back's Journey: From Forest to Vasco
In a recent development, Nottingham Forest has facilitated a transfer, concluding the Premier League winter window. The story revolves around 22-year-old defender Cuiabano, who has opted to join Vasco da Gama on loan, returning to his Brazilian roots.
But here's where it gets controversial: Cuiabano's loan deal includes an option for Vasco to make it permanent, with a potential contract until 2030. This move comes after a brief stint with Forest, where he featured for the Under-21s but failed to make a single appearance for the first team.
In an exclusive interview, Cuiabano revealed the reasons behind his choice. "What made me choose Vasco was the project they presented. My family and I carefully considered it, and we were convinced. In Brazil, I don't need to adapt; I have friends and a connection to the country's youth national team. I'm excited to debut and feel the passion of the fans."
And this is the part most people miss: Cuiabano's journey with Forest was short-lived. He joined the Reds last summer and was quickly loaned back to Botafogo for the second half of 2025. After that, he briefly trained with Sean Dyche's side before heading back to Brazil.
According to reports, Vasco has the option to buy Cuiabano for €10 million (£8.6m), which is intriguing given Forest's initial investment of around £5m to sign him on a four-year deal.
In a pre-loan interview, Cuiabano expressed his happiness at joining Vasco and his fitness levels, having played with Forest's Under-21s. He also mentioned his aspirations to reach the national team, a goal he aims to work towards daily.
Forest officially announced Cuiabano's departure, wishing him well for the rest of the season. But the question remains: Should Cuiabano have been given more opportunities at Forest?
